My GBGV Life 5 Ways To Celebrate Earth Day With Your PupHappy Earth Day to you and your pup! We all love our planet, so how can you and your furry friend chip in to help save the earth? I have a few simple ideas to get you started.

My GBGV Life bulk food1. Buy In Bulk Or Recycle

Waste is a big problem on our planet. So many things are thrown away each year either because people are lazy, or the items cannot be recycled. Pet food packaging can create a lot of waste. If you are able to recycle food cans and bags, make sure and do so. Perhaps you can purchase the food in bulk to cut down on packaging? We get our raw food in bulk and recycle the cardboard it comes on.

2. Choose Reuseable Storage Containers

Choose reuseable storage containers for food and treats rather than plastic bags you throw away. They make washable bags now which are great for taking treats along on a walk, or for dog sports. We use “Tupperware” like containers for our raw food in the fridge and resuable bags for the freezer.

3. Repurpose Items You Don’t Need

Repurpose old pet items such as toys and beds. We have given away a lot of toys we have no use for, or bowls we didn’t like. After cat bro Bert died, Mom gave all the cat stuff to a friend with a new kitten. Pet items are not cheap and gently used items should not be thrown away. Shelters often take items too.

4. Save Old Towels

We know a lot of people who are paper towel crazy, but it is a waste of paper. Save your old towels and use them to clean up spills, accidents and to dry off your wet dog. Toss them in the washer and reuse. It is not only good for the environment, it saves you money. Mom has been doing this as long as she can remember. We have small wash cloths up to bath towels in a cupboard for cleaning and clean up. You can also donate towels to most vet offices and animal shelters.

Believe me, we have tried a million kinds of poop bags, but we primarily use EarthRated bags for several reasons. We can buy them in bulk. They are the only bags that don’t break when it is -20 out in the winter. The bags are good sized and Mom can get all our poop from a walk into one bag (saving on bags). Most important, they are biodegradable which is big for Earth Day! We have proof as Mom occasionally finds a bag in a jacket pocket from a few years ago. Forget using it! It actually disintegrates right in her hand.

We only have one earth and it is important that we take care of it. There has been so much waste over the years, and this needs to stop. Living more green is not hard, and every little bit helps!

Take your pup for an Earth Day walk today to enjoy the planet and while walking, think about what else you can do to make the earth a better place.
