We’ve been beating the heat over the years with water. Today I thought it would be fun to remember some of the fun times our family has had in water. Now we don’t go in the water except for a bath. Olivia and Nelson are a bit scared of water but for Emma, me and Madison, water was a lot of fun. Now it’s getting really hot out but Mom is afraid of the diseases in the water.
Emma was a real water girl. She spent eight months of her first year of life on the North Sea Coast in Germany. She could not get enough of the beach life.
Even Katie who wasn’t a fan of swimming enjoyed wading around with Emma in the North Sea.
After they moved back to Minnesota from Germany, Mom bought them a pool. Emma loved the pool. She enjoyed laying in it and drinking from it.
I showed up in 2013 and learned about the fun of a pool right away. Getting soaking wet feels really great on a hot day. This was my first time in such a pool.
We took a trip to Florida and Mom thought floating on rafts would be a lot of fun. I was not so sure but I managed to stay afloat.
Emma also enjoyed floating around for a while. Pools are kind of scary and we both preferred natural bodies of water.
On another Florida trip we went to the dog beach. Since it wasn’t fenced, Mom had us on flexi leads.
At home I learned about riding in a lake in a kayak. I also tried a jet ski and it was fun.
Romping about in the lake also helps with beating the heat.
In 2017 Mom took Madison and I to Chicago for two days. On the second day we visited Montrose Dog Beach and had so much fun. Madison really fell in love and showed her love of water too.
Olivia came along in 2019. Mom thought maybe she would love dock diving. It turns out she didn’t have any interest in going into the pool. After a couple training sessions, Mom gave up on that whole idea.
In 2021 Olivia and Madison went to Florida for the FastCAT Invitational. They visited Cocoa Beach. Madison was over the top excited and got right into the water and waves but Olivia didn’t want to to in the water. Playing on the sand was enough for her.
Nelson had never been in any body of water until we visited the east coast last year. It was tough keeping Madison out of the water but Nelson is like me. He was afraid of the waves and water and wanted nothing to do with swimming.
I’m thankful for being able to swim and play in lakes and oceans. For me it is a lot of fun. Even though I don’t like to travel I have had lots of good experiences because of traveling. It is a bummer my siblings are not interested in getting all wet. Looking at this photo it is hard to believe it is Lake Michigan and not the ocean, isn’t it?
