In the small town of Hancock, Michigan, a loyal search and rescue dog named Presley is facing one of his toughest missions yet—fighting cancer. Presley isn’t just any dog; he’s been an important part of the Superior Search and Rescue team for years.

His kind heart and dedication have made a difference in many lives, whether it’s assisting in searches or simply bringing smiles at local events. Now, Presley needs the community’s support as he battles a serious illness.
Presley’s Story of Service and Strength

Presley is a Newfoundland who’s almost eight years old and has spent much of his life helping others. As a trained K-9 search and rescue dog, he has been out in the field with his team and also served as a friendly face at community gatherings. He’s even brought joy to children with disabilities through his gentle presence. In March, his life took a sudden turn when he was diagnosed with a severe form of bone cancer.
“We felt a large lump,” said Amber Kraft, Presley’s owner. “And very quickly, our local vet was able to get him in and diagnosed. And then we were able to meet with an oncologist in Duluth, who formulated an action plan. And then we were able to go to Madison to get the surgery, and all three vets have been working very well together to make his treatment very quick and easy, given the situation.”
Thanks to the fast response from his team of vets, Presley was able to undergo surgery. But there’s still a long healing journey ahead.
Community Support Through a Special Fundraiser

To help cover the high cost of Presley’s treatment—which includes the removal of one of his front legs and chemotherapy—his supporters are hoping to raise $2,500. A local group called Paavo’s Pack Walks is stepping up to host a birthday party and summer fundraiser in Presley’s honor. The event promises a fun time, with puppy races and themed gift baskets to enjoy.
“Every other event I’ve been to, everybody is willing to help each other, so it would be wonderful to see people support Presley,” said Kraft.
It’s not just a fundraiser—it’s a celebration of everything Presley has done for the community and a chance for people (and their dogs) to show him some love in return.
