For years, she had moved through life with confidence, memorizing the layout of her home and delighting in simple routines. When darkness suddenly replaced the world she recognized, her family feared her spirit might dim along with it. They worried she would feel afraid, confused, or withdrawn. For six beautiful years, Meisha was a healthy, happy dog. She ran freely. She explored without hesitation. Her world was bright and full of adventure.

A visit to the veterinarian confirmed their fears. Meisha had glaucoma. The pressure in her eyes was causing intense pain. There was only one way to give her comfort again. Both of her eyes would need to be removed.

It was a heartbreaking decision. But it was made out of love.

After surgery, something unexpected happened. Meisha began to smile again. The pain was gone. She moved more lightly. She seemed younger, freer. Though she could no longer see, she was no longer hurting.
