Deputies Rescue Young Girl Found Wandering Alone at Night in Santa Clarita
A potentially dangerous situation in Santa Clarita ended with relief after deputies located a little girl wandering the streets at night with her small dog.

According to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, deputies were called around 10 p.m. Wednesday after a teenager spotted the child near Magic Mountain Parkway and McBean Parkway. The caller, Julius Rivera, said he became alarmed when he saw the young girl walking by herself in the dark.
“I saw this little girl walking down the road by herself and I was following her to make sure nothing happened to her,” Rivera recalled. “I was trying to stop her, but then she was running from me so I called the cops.”
Deputies arrived quickly and found the girl—believed to be about 5 years old—wearing only a diaper and a shirt. She carried a backpack and had her small dog by her side. Despite her age, she managed to guide officers back to her nearby apartment complex.

Her mother was detained for questioning as investigators looked into the circumstances that allowed the child to be unsupervised at night. Authorities have not released further details about the mother’s situation. The girl was safely placed in her father’s custody.

Officials credited Rivera’s quick decision to call 911 for helping ensure the child’s safety. The incident highlights the importance of community vigilance, showing how one person’s awareness and quick action, combined with law enforcement’s swift response, can prevent tragedy. Today, both the young girl and her dog are safe.
