Texas Community Demands Justice After Decomposed Dogs Found in Abandoned Home

In Montgomery County, Texas, a devastating case of animal abuse has left a community outraged and demanding accountability. A mother and her adult daughter, who had been renting a home in Cleveland, allegedly abandoned the property—leaving behind a scene so disturbing, it has launched an active criminal investigation.

When the landlord entered the property after the tenants moved out, he was met with a horrifying sight. The decomposed remains of at least four dogs were scattered throughout the home. Feces and urine covered nearly every surface, and one dog’s body was found jammed behind a bathroom door, so tightly wedged that the door couldn’t fully open.

Dog rescuer Betty Ann Harp was among the first called to the scene. Visibly shaken, she struggled to recount the moment. “It was horrific,” Harp said. “I still get emotional talking about it. This is not normal.” Her pain echoed throughout the neighborhood as details of the discovery emerged.

Neighbor Chance Burns believes the cruelty was intentional. “They trapped them in there. They did this purposely. There’s no doubt about it,” he said. “I think they suffered real bad. You’ve seen it—it’s horrific.”

Although the mother and daughter have not yet been charged, the Montgomery County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office has launched a full investigation. For now, their names are being withheld, pending further evidence. Community members, however, are outraged and have taken to social media and local forums to call for the harshest possible penalties. Many fear that if this case is brushed aside, others may believe similar cruelty can go unpunished.

FOX 26 reporter Randy Wallace spoke directly with Harp and the property owner, both of whom stressed the urgency of not letting the case be forgotten. Their message was clear: these dogs deserve justice, and silence only enables further suffering.

The shocking discovery has ignited broader conversations around animal cruelty laws in Texas and the need for stronger enforcement.
