I earned my Detective Q #8 on the weekend. You need ten Q’s for a Detective Title. Each search is an unknown number of five to ten hides and you have a set amount of time to find them. You have to be perfect and it is not easy but AKC Scent Work made it that way. The KCKC, Key City Kennel Club put on the trial. They are in Mankato. If that sounds familiar, Little House on the Prairie talked about Mankato sometimes.
Here is more of the scenery from the trial site – corn and more corn. It was an hour drive from our house. We left going sound and after about five minutes we saw nothing but corn until we saw the trial site, the school. There sure is a lot of farmland! It is always funny to end up in the middle of nowhere and then see so many friends of ours we know from sniffing sports.
We were in Cleveland, but having been in the big city of Cleveland, I can tell you Cleveland, MN is nothing like Cleveland, OH. Here I am waiting for my first search. Mom and I had a really fun search of classrooms but I missed one hide so no Q. My second search was also fun and it was challenging but we felt good about it until we found out I missed one hide again! Detective is hard but also a bit depressing. When we saw the trial results, we felt better. Only two teams passed the first search I did and one passed the second search. There were twenty five teams in Detective so the pass rate was not good.
Saturday was a new day. Mom took the highway most of the way to Cleveland which made us all happier. All meaning me, Olivia, and Mom. Bailie stayed home, of course. We had our optimism refilled overnight and attacked my one Detective search right away in the morning. Yes! We did it! I got a Q, and also my first placement ever in Detective. Third place, yes, I will take it. Now I have eight Q’s and I need two more. We hope to get those in September. All three searches were fun and we keep learning things as we go to make Team Lime Green better next time.
