Wilbur is not your typical dog. While most pups are busy fetching sticks or dozing in sunny corners, Wilbur has found joy in something far more unusual. He truly believes he is a guinea pig. Every morning, when his human, Jen, brings out her two guinea pigs, lovingly called the Dumplings, Wilbur happily joins their routine. What began as innocent curiosity soon blossomed into a daily ritual filled with laughter, love, and a bond so unique it continues to surprise everyone who sees it.

It all began one afternoon when Wilbur watched the Dumplings eating lettuce. They nibbled happily on their greens, and he seemed puzzled at first. Then something clicked. “He saw them eating, and he thought, ‘This is something I should be doing,’” Jen recalled with a laugh. At first, Wilbur didn’t quite understand the appeal. He would grab a piece of lettuce, give it a dramatic sniff, and then spit it out as if to prove a point. It was almost like he was saying, “If they’re eating this, I’ll try it too, but I’m not sure why.”
Over time, things began to change. Wilbur started to enjoy his leafy snacks, eventually turning snack time into a shared event. Now, each morning, Jen gathers the Dumplings and spreads out piles of lettuce for everyone, including Wilbur. It has become their little ritual. The guinea pigs munch away while Wilbur patiently waits for his turn. When they finish, the Dumplings waddle back to their cozy house, and Wilbur quietly watches them go, tail wagging gently.

The friendship between Wilbur and the Dumplings has grown into something truly heartwarming. They don’t just tolerate each other. They’ve formed a bond built on trust and affection. Sometimes, Wilbur lies beside their cage, resting his head close enough that the guinea pigs can see him. One of them, Market Price, often climbs up on Wilbur’s side as if he’s a soft, warm hill. The other, Rumps, prefers to curl up right next to him, perfectly still and content, like a tiny potato nestled into a patch of fur.

He never barks or startles them. Instead, he’s calm and gentle, watching over them like a protective big brother.
Wilbur may not understand that he’s a dog, but maybe that’s what makes their bond so special. In his eyes, they’re just family. And in return, the Dumplings have accepted him completely. Their unlikely friendship is a beautiful reminder that love and companionship can bloom in the most unexpected places, sometimes even between a dog and two guinea pigs sharing a pile of lettuce.
