For Tyla, freedom was something she had never known—a distant, unreachable dream. From the moment she was born, her life was filled with hardship, neglect, and unimaginable cruelty. Trapped in an outdoor tent, she was chained to a crate, isolated from the world, and deprived of the love and care that every dog deserves. Her owner ensured she remained hidden, as if her very existence was something to be ashamed of. She had no soft place to rest, no warm embrace to comfort her, and no moments of joy to break the monotony of her suffering.

Day after day, Tyla endured unimaginable neglect. With no soft place to rest, she curled up on a baking sheet—the only semblance of a bed she had ever known. She longed for kindness, for warmth, but instead, she survived on scraps carelessly tossed into her crate. She had no access to fresh water, no companionship, and no protection from harsh weather conditions. Rain, scorching heat, or bitter cold—Tyla endured it all with no way to escape.
Her spirit dwindled with each passing day, and hope seemed lost. She had never known the feeling of being petted, of running freely, or of curling up on a cozy bed in a loving home. Would anyone ever come to save her?
Fortunately, Tyla’s suffering did not go unnoticed. Concerned neighbors reported the disturbing situation, and law enforcement quickly intervened. Officers arrived at the property and were horrified to find the young pup chained up, deprived of proper food and medical care.
Rescuers seized Tyla from the grasp of her abusive owner, who was swiftly charged for neglect and mistreatment. Finally, after months of enduring misery, Tyla was free. But her journey to recovery had only just begun.
Her new journey began when Forgotten, Now Family Rescue, a dedicated animal rescue in Charlotte, North Carolina, took her under their care. The rescue team immediately recognized the severity of her condition and rushed her to a veterinarian for a full medical evaluation.
Tyla was in extremely poor health. Severely malnourished and suffering from a painful paw infection and a fungal ear infection, she required immediate medical attention. Veterinarians administered antibiotics and placed her on a specialized feeding regimen to restore her strength. Her frail body needed time to recover, but the biggest challenge was healing her emotional wounds.
As Tyla’s health improved, she was placed in a foster home, where she would finally experience love and security. Initially, her foster mom, Avery Andolina, worried that the scars of her past might leave her withdrawn and afraid to trust humans again. Would she ever be able to adjust to a normal life?
But Tyla had a surprise in store.
Rather than being fearful or distant, Tyla welcomed her new caretakers with open-hearted affection. The moment she met Avery, she instinctively sought love and connection, as if she had been yearning for it all along. It was as though she instantly knew she was safe.

“She saw us and instantly wanted love. It’s like she had missed out on it for so long, and she knew exactly what she had been deprived of. She was just so ready to be loved and to give love in return,” Avery shared with GeoBeats Animals.
For the first time in her life, Tyla had a warm place to sleep, fresh food to eat, and people who truly cared about her well-being. It was a completely new experience for her, but she embraced every moment of it.
Having spent her entire life confined to a crate, Tyla initially struggled with indoor living. She had no concept of a proper dog bed and resisted being placed in a crate again, destroying anything inside it. Her trauma ran deep, and her foster family knew they had to be patient with her.
Understanding her past, Avery introduced gentle crate training, helping Tyla gradually adjust. With time and positive reinforcement, she began to trust that her crate was no longer a place of punishment but rather a safe space. Now, she comfortably sleeps in her crate when her foster parents are away, knowing she will always be let out again.
Tyla’s paw infection made walking on concrete painful, so Avery ensured she had soft surfaces to tread on during her initial outings. At first, even stepping onto a paved sidewalk was a struggle. But with time, care, and proper treatment, her paws healed completely, allowing her to enjoy long, happy walks.
As her strength returned, Tyla blossomed into a playful, affectionate pup. She gained weight, built confidence, and fully recovered. Her once-starved body was now healthy and strong, and her eyes, once filled with sadness, now sparkled with joy.
Despite her traumatic past, Tyla’s heart remained full of love and trust. Her resilience was remarkable, and her foster mom couldn’t be prouder of the transformation she had undergone.
“Even though she was mistreated and endured such hardship, she hasn’t let it define her. She is still incredibly loving and trusting of humans, which is truly amazing,” Avery expressed.
Now living happily in her foster home in North Carolina, Tyla is ready to find her forever family. Despite her incredible journey and affectionate nature, she has yet to receive any adoption applications. But she remains hopeful that the right family will soon recognize the love and joy she has to offer.
