Tye’s owner, Karla Swindle of S & K Quarter Horses in Fayette, Alabama, was devastated by the loss of the mare. She knew that caring for such a young foal without its mother would be a challenge. Karla is no stranger to animal care—she’s been raising and working with horses for years—but she had no idea that her dog Zip was about to play one of the most important roles in the little horse’s healing journey.

Zip had never paid much attention to the horses on the farm before. But something about Tye’s quiet heartbreak stirred something deep within him. That night, when Karla found Tye lying in the barn, Zip was right there too. He laid down beside the foal, as if to say, “You’re not alone.”
