K9s are truly remarkable dogs. They offer invaluable service to police forces while forming bonds with their handlers that last a lifetime. One video beautifully captures this bond, showing a police dog who appears to cry with joy after reuniting with her former handler after years apart. This touching video, shared by the Xichuan Police Department on a Chinese social media platform, features Wangwang, an 8-year-old German shepherd who once served as a scent dog.

According to Daily Star, Wangwang retired from active duty in June 2019. After retirement, Wangwang was well-cared for, but separation from her handler was a difficult adjustment. She clearly missed him deeply, so when he decided to surprise her with a visit after years apart, Wangwang was thrilled. The loyal dog sprinted toward him, eagerly greeting her old friend.

The officer bent down to pet Wangwang, and she appeared overwhelmed, her eyes misty with emotion. Despite time and distance, their connection remained as strong as ever.

While some retired K9s have the opportunity to live with their handlers in their golden years, the Xichuan Police Department explains that their officers often lack the time needed to care for retired dogs. Instead, these loyal dogs are placed with loving families.
