Droopy Dog may be real after all! Mom has told me since I was a puppy I look a lot like Droopy the cartoon character. Droopy was created by a French artist and he was created to be a hound. He starred in the film Dumb Hounded in 1943. Remember, the GBGV comes from France and we are hounds!
Let’s take a look at some comparable shots. I don’t stand on my back legs like Droopy does but our noses, long ears and hair on our heads do appear to be quite similar. Droopy Dog was created in 1943, making him a lot older than I am. His signature line is, “I’m so happy!” That fits me too as people always tell Mom that I am such a happy guy.
Here are photos of us lying down. Droopy has positions that I can’t do but our head furs do look a bit similar.
Finally I have head shots of us together. Note the slanting of our lower ears, the deep black noses, and the head furs standing on end. The GBGV didn’t become an official breed, even in France, until the 1950’s. Most likely this artist found our breed adorable and since we are also quite funny, he created us in cartoon form as Droopy. That’s my story and I’m sticking with it. Do you agree?
