New murals in Shakopee? I could not believe on a morning where the temperature was slightly below zero with a big windchill, Mom said we were going to do mural photos. Does she not ever think about freezing? She saw this first one on TV the other day and was dying to go to Shakopee to find it. We did find out it was new, made in September 2024, so that explains why we never saw it before. It’s beautiful, but, brrrr…baby it was cold outside! I bet you don’t wish you were there with me that day, LOL!
While researching where to find the new mural, Mom came across a huge mural site in a pedestrian tunnel. Now, don’t forget how cold it was out. Mom said we could walk around and find it. Did you know Mom has no sense of direction? Oh boy, here we go, probably will freeze to death but Mom is full speed ahead with her ideas. She did leave the good camera in the car, though because she said it was too cold for it and she would have to take off her gloves to use it. So our photos are all phone photos. This is the tunnel. The sun made a lot of trouble for getting a shot of it all, so we took several shots.
It truly is beautiful! The entrance at one end is covered in leaf painting which is pretty. This mural was painted in 2015 by four hundred volunteers and a professional artist. In total, the mural covers 6500 square feet.
This beautiful eagle is on the ceiling when you first walk in from the one side. We also found out the entire project is coated with an anti-graffiti clear coat to prevent the beautiful project from being destroyed. What a great idea!
Along the entrance wall on the one side are tee pees, signalling the old landscape of Shakopee where Indians once lived. Here you can see how the eagle soars above the ground, on the ceiling.
There is an old train on some tracks along one side.
Even some deer are featured on the walls. The river is actually the Minnesota River which is right by the other side of this tunnel where all the trails are.
Finally, this mural is outside the back end of the tunnel. It depicts Shakopee, old to new. See the old homesteads, the city now, grain elevators, and the Valleyfair Amusement Park in it.
Even if it is cold, you can still get out and see some things. It may not be nature but murals are always fun to find.
We are joining our friends at Living Laughing and Barking in Our Backyard is for their Nature Friday blog hop.
