Even though it’s a three-layer recipe, it’s still easy to make. The only thing it requires is your (or your dog’s) patience during freezing time between layers.

Ingredients:
White layer: 1/4 cup Plain unsweetened yogurt
Red layer: 1/4 cup Blended strawberries (fresh or frozen, no sugar added)
Blue layer: 1/4 plain yogurt mixed with a pinch of blue spirulina powder
Alternative: Blend blueberries on their own, or mix blueberries with plain yogurt for a natural blue layer
Handle: Redbarn Choppers beef lung treats (each Choppers piece is large, so break it into smaller sections that are still big enough to use as a treat handle)

HOW TO MAKE Red, White & Blue Patriotic Frozen Dog Treat Recipe

Step-by-Step Instructions: Patriotic Frozen Dog Treat Recipe

For this recipe, I used fun star and cloud-shaped silicone molds by Emery Pets which is available on Amazon. Using this mold, it gave the treats a patriotic playful, patriotic — but you can use any ice cube tray or mold you have.

Step 1: Prepare Your Layers
Red Layer: Blend strawberries until smooth.
Blue Layer: Mix plain yogurt with a small amount of blue spirulina powder.
White Layer: Use plain, unsweetened yogurt as-is.

Step 2: Layer the Ingredients
Spoon each color into your mold one layer at a time, freezing in between to keep the colors crisp and separated. Here’s how:
Start with either red or blue—you can alternate the order. For example:
Red → White → Blue
Or Blue → White → Red
After each layer, freeze for about 30–45 minutes until slightly firm before adding the next.

Step 3: Add the Handle
After adding the white yogurt layer, insert a Choppers beef lung treat vertically into the center of each mold. This will act as a handle once frozen—and a crunchy bonus treat!

Step 4: Freeze Completely
Add the final layer, then freeze the treats for 2–3 hours or overnight until fully set.
Once frozen solid, pop them out of the molds and serve them to your pup for a patriotic, refreshing snack!

Can Dogs Eat Beef Lung?

Yes, dogs can eat a beef lung. A beef lung is not only safe but highly nutritious for dogs when given in moderation. For this recipe, I used Choppers® from Redbarn –
– All-natural beef lung
– Baked to a crunchy texture dogs love
– Packed with meaty flavor and protein
– Made in Redbarn’s own manufacturing facility in Great Bend, KS

Even better, these treats help support dental health by gently scraping away plaque and massaging your pup’s gums as they chew. It’s the perfect edible handle for these frozen treats!
Redbarn Choppers are available on Amazon – It’s my golden retriever dog’s favorite—and we’ve got it on our Amazon Subscribe & Save!
