In Oklahoma City, where crime rates remain among the highest in the nation, one family narrowly escaped a terrifying situation thanks to their loyal dog. In broad daylight, an intruder brazenly walked into a downtown apartment, unaware that a 122-pound Great Dane mix named Dubai was watching.

Security footage shows the man casually entering through a side door. He appeared calm and even friendly, greeting the large dog as if he belonged there. Unfortunately, this wasn’t his home. Inside, a mother and her blind son were just feet away in another room, unaware of the danger that had just entered their space.

The man tried to win over Dubai by petting him and behaving in a non-threatening manner. At first, the dog didn’t react aggressively. But as the man continued moving through the apartment, the mother heard something and went to investigate. That’s when she came face to face with the intruder.

Startled, she screamed. That moment was all Dubai needed. The loyal dog sprang into action, biting the man in the backside and then lunging toward his head. His fierce and immediate reaction drove the intruder to flee.

Dubai’s protective instincts likely prevented a tragedy. While the man ran from the apartment, the mother locked the door and quickly called the police. Dubai continued barking, standing guard in case the threat returned.

Thanks to quick police work and security footage, the suspect, 32-year-old Robert Ward, was quickly located and arrested. He was later convicted of second-degree burglary.

The incident serves as a powerful reminder of how deeply dogs can bond with their families, and how far they’ll go to keep them safe. For this Oklahoma City family, Dubai didn’t just scare off a criminal—he may have saved lives.
