Introducing the newest proud tracking dog, me, Nelson. On October 27th, Mom and I went to Kinnickinnic State Park, just over the border in Wisconsin for my test. I haven’t been practicing a lot, but I had practiced a few times in the past two months. The weather was ideal, cool, some wind, and it had recently rained so the ground was damp. This is me with my start article and the glove I had to find. My track was in the field behind me.
I was dog number six to draw my track and I drew track six. We then found out tracks six through eight were a couple miles down the road in fields over there. Mom has tracked several times at this park and only once went to these fields. Come to find out it is where Madison earned her TD at ten months old and it was the same field. Behind me on the right of the photo is the area where my 450 yard track was. Mom and I both knew Madison was with us in the draw and would be with us as we tracked. Madison and I did so much together, I know she is super proud of me as she smiled down on me from heaven.
You know I am a hard worker and I had to wait so long to run my track as tracks are run one after another, I was bursting with energy. I cruised through the track, raced around the four turns without problems, even stopped for a couple deer poo snacks along the way. Only on the last leg did I go off track after something interesting but Mom reminded me to track and I came right back and raced to the glove. I was so fast, the judges could not keep up, so they were a ways away but could still see the grass moving where I was working. Now I have my TD, Tracking Dog Title.
Normally at most one or two dogs pass these tests but on that day, all eight of us in the test passed which was super nice. Because the first five had passed, Mom was afraid of being the first to fail, but I didn’t let Team Lime Green down.
The judges and my track layer signed my glove and then we got to take some group photos. In the photo, Duane the “stinky, in a good way” track layer is on the left, then judge one, Mom, and judge two. That’s me out front in case you didn’t notice.
Here are my track maps, one from each judge, my signed glove, ribbon, and judging program. Now Olivia needs to get certified and get her TD Title in 2025. Finally I beat her to something! It sure was a Grand day and I am one proud Tracking Dog! Now I have even more letters after my name, yay!
