Local Woman Finds Dog in Shopping Cart, Then Discovers His Wild Backstory

4 hours ago 2

One ordinary day in Phoenix, Arizona, Dyesa and her friend were headed to a doctor’s appointment when something unusual caught their eye. Right in front of a grocery store, sitting inside a shopping cart, was a small puppy with a worried look on his face. The two women didn’t think twice—they rushed over to check on the little guy. He looked scared but also relieved that someone finally noticed him.

They gently comforted the puppy and tried to figure out if he belonged to someone. Wanting to know more, they spoke to some of the store workers. The staff mentioned the pup had been there since early morning—around 5 a.m.—but no one had any clue where he came from or who he belonged to.

Thinking that the puppy had been left behind, the kindhearted women knew they had to do something. They decided to take care of him and named him Herbert. They gave him food and wrapped him in a jacket to make sure he stayed warm and cozy. Once Herbert had eaten, they reached out to Maricopa County Animal Care & Control, who stepped in to take him under their wing.

On November 21st, 2024, Dyesa uploaded a video to her TikTok account sharing Herbert’s story. She hoped that someone out there would want to adopt this sweet dog and give him a forever home. The video quickly reached a wide audience. Viewers were upset—many were angry that store workers didn’t help and heartbroken thinking Herbert had been abandoned by his owner.

Shortly after being released, he became overcome by rage and frustration and began violently wailing on his poor, trembling, frightened dog. It's clear that this man's violent tendencies didn't decrease after serving his time.

The Truth Comes Out

Just when everyone believed the pup had been dumped, an unexpected twist changed everything. Five days after her original post, Dyesa gave her followers an update that left many surprised.

“The dog ran out of the house, and the owner couldn’t locate him,” she shared in a comment.

She added that no one really knew how Herbert ended up in that shopping cart at the store. It turned out the dog’s owner had been desperately trying to find him. He had called shelters and searched nonstop, but since Herbert had only been placed on a stray hold for three days, his info wasn’t in the shelter system yet.

Luckily, a friend of the owner stumbled upon Dyesa’s TikTok video and sent it to him. That was the moment everything started to fall into place.

A Joyful Reunion

As soon as he knew where his dog was, Herbert’s real owner rushed to the shelter in Phoenix to get him. That same day, Dyesa happened to be visiting Herbert and witnessed the beautiful moment they were reunited.

The puppy lit up with excitement as soon as he saw his owner. He jumped up, tail wagging, grinning from ear to ear. It was clear the two had missed each other deeply.

It turned out the puppy’s real name was Roy. After being apart for days, he finally went back home. Not only did his human dad miss him dearly, but so did his doggy brother. When the two dogs saw each other again, they were over the moon with joy.

Roy’s owner was beyond thankful to Dyesa—not only for helping care for his lost pup but also for sharing his story online. Her kindness brought a lost dog back home where he belonged.
