Buddy, a 13-year-old Golden Retriever, has been by Hannah Foraker’s side for as long as she can remember. The two shared a deep bond, having grown up together. But when Hannah turned 21 and left for basic training in Oklahoma, she had to make the difficult decision to leave Buddy behind.

The separation wasn’t easy. Hannah’s heart ached, not only leaving her beloved dog but also her horse, Derby. So when she returned home for Christmas after three months away, there was one reunion she was especially looking forward to — and Buddy felt the same.
Despite his age, arthritis, and significant hearing loss, Buddy’s love for Hannah hadn’t faded one bit. As soon as he saw her walk through the door, he made his way to her, rested his head in her lap, and began to cry. It was as if all the time apart melted away in that one tender moment.

This touching reunion is a beautiful reminder of the unconditional love dogs hold for their humans — no matter how much time has passed. While we’ve seen many heartwarming reunions between soldiers and their pets, Buddy and Hannah’s moment is truly unforgettable.
