Sometimes the animals we admire from a distance end up showing us extraordinary acts of kindness. In a quiet Kansas backyard, a family of wild bunnies had become regular visitors, appearing during the cool hours of dawn and dusk as they explored the yard and searched for food. Their presence never went unnoticed by Carley Mae, a gentle dog who loved watching them through the window. What began as a routine part of daily life soon turned into an unforgettable moment when one tiny rabbit found itself in serious danger and needed help from an unexpected friend.

Although Carley Mae loved keeping an eye on the rabbits, she had never actually gotten close to one. The cautious bunnies always managed to stay a safe distance away. But one unexpected day changed everything.
While Owens was out of town, a friend stopped by to care for the property and let Carley Mae outside. At first, everything seemed normal. Then the friend noticed the dog acting unusually focused near the backyard pool.
Something was wrong.
A tiny bunny had somehow fallen into the water and was struggling to stay afloat. Trapped inside the pool with no easy way out, the frightened little animal desperately searched for safety. The situation was becoming increasingly dangerous with every passing second.
As Owens’ friend rushed to find a pool scoop to help, Carley Mae sprang into action.
The attentive dog followed the bunny’s movements along the edge of the pool, carefully tracking the struggling animal. Then, showing remarkable gentleness, she reached down and lifted the tiny rabbit from the water herself.

Soaked but safe, the bunny wasted no time heading back toward shelter after being rescued. The frightened little animal disappeared from sight, but not before escaping what could have been a fatal accident.
A Different Kind of Chase
For Carley Mae, the rescue was especially touching. The same bunny she normally enjoyed watching and chasing from a distance had suddenly become someone who needed help.
Instead of acting on instinct to pursue the rabbit, she responded with care.
When Owens returned home, she reviewed footage from her security camera and was able to see exactly how the remarkable rescue unfolded. Watching the events play out confirmed just how gently and deliberately Carley Mae had handled the vulnerable animal.
Even better, the bunny survived the ordeal and continues to visit the yard, proving that the rescue had a happy ending.
