Kenzo has seamlessly transitioned from being a Champion in dog show conformation to excelling as a K9 Athlete. In 2024, he achieved an impressive five AKC titles: BCAT, DJ, FITS, FDC, and CGC. This is a significant progression compared to his three AKC titles in 2023: CH, FITB, and TKN. Keep reading as I explain the meaning and significance of each of these AKC titles.
From Dog Show Champion To K9 Athlete
Kenzo has had an incredible past years. March 2023 was particularly unforgettable, as he achieved his AKC Championship at the Golden Retriever Club of America Western Regional Specialty Dog Show. Participating in dog shows brought Kenzo countless benefits, and as his proud pawrents, we also gained invaluable knowledge and experience along the way.
Kenzo’s love for running (and chasing squirrels) and his enthusiasm for water inspired us to explore dog sports and continue his journey in dog obedience training. It has proven to be a wonderful shift for both him and us.
Here are the five AKC titles that Kenzo has achieved:
2024 AKC Titles My Dog Achieved
1. Fast CAT – BCAT
Kenzo’s favorite dog sport is Fast CAT, a thrilling event where he chases a lure in a timed 100-yard dash. This sport requires both of us, his pawrents, to actively participate—one as the releaser and the other as the catcher. Kenzo earned his BCAT title after his 7th run, achieving an impressive personal best time of 9.46 seconds. This title is a true testament to his boundless energy, love for chasing, and pure joy for running.

2. Dock Diving – DJ held by by NADD – North America Diving Dogs
Kenzo earned his Dock Diving Junior (DJ) title from both NADD and AKC with five qualifying jumps in the junior division. Watching him leap into the water with pure joy and boundless enthusiasm was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the year. He absolutely loves the sport, and his excitement made it an absolute joy to watch. For the season, Kenzo’s personal best jump was an impressive 14’10”.
3. Fit Dog – FITS
This title reflects Kenzo’s and our shared commitment to staying active and healthy together. In 2023, he earned his Fit Dog Bronze (FITB) title, and this year, he achieved the Fit Dog Silver (FITS) title. To earn this distinction, we completed a series of fitness challenges, including group walks, swimming, and activities that contributed to his BCAT and DJ titles—both integral parts of this achievement.
This title represents more than just fitness; it symbolizes the quality time we spend together and our dedication to prioritizing Kenzo’s health and well-being.
4. Farm Dog – FDC
Kenzo earning his Farm Dog Certified (FDC) title was an enjoyable and memorable experience, especially when he met a baby goat during the test! This evaluation was both unique and rewarding as Kenzo showcased his confidence, focus, and obedience in a farm setting.
He calmly navigated various farm surfaces and obstacles, interacted appropriately with livestock, and demonstrated exceptional adaptability and temperament in a new environment. This title truly highlights Kenzo’s versatility and well-rounded personality.
5. Canine Good Citizen – CGC
Kenzo achieving his CGC (Canine Good Citizen) title was a significant milestone in our obedience training journey. This accomplishment highlights Kenzo’s exceptional manners, obedience, and ability to remain calm and well-behaved in various situations. Earning this title filled us with immense pride, as it showcased the results of our hard work and training. It’s incredibly rewarding to see how well he understood and implemented what he learned.
Plan For 2025 AKC Titles
With 2024’s incredible achievements behind us, we’re looking forward to new dog sports adventures in 2025. Whether it’s pursuing advanced titles in tricks, dock diving, improving Fast CAT running times, or trying an entirely new canine sport like Scent Work, we’re ready for the fun challenges and rewards ahead.
Earning AKC titles is more than a goal — it’s a journey of connection, growth, and shared joy. The precious memories and the bond we created with KENZO were the greatest rewards.
