Patience’s journey has been nothing short of heartbreaking. Just two years ago, this sweet and loving Pittie believed she had finally found her forever home. She had been rescued from a New Jersey shelter, her tail wagging with excitement as she embarked on what she thought would be a new, happy chapter in her life. But that dream was shattered when, less than a year later, her adopters decided to return her, leaving her abandoned and confused. Once again, she found herself back in a shelter, her heart broken and her trust in humans fading. This time, however, the weight of disappointment was too much to bear. The joyful, affectionate dog she once was had disappeared, replaced by a soul so devastated that she couldn’t even lift her head. She withdrew into herself, avoiding all interaction, and turned away from the world that had let her down once again.

Instead of holding on to hope, Patience shut down completely. She withdrew from the world, retreating into the corner of her tiny kennel, refusing to interact with anyone. She was so devastated that she couldn’t even lift her head. She avoided eye contact, as if trying to make herself invisible in the chaotic shelter environment.
Her heartbreaking condition crushed the spirits of the shelter staff, who tried everything to bring her back to life. Volunteers sat with her, spoke to her in gentle tones, and even brought her favorite treats, but nothing seemed to reach her shattered soul. It was as if she had given up on the idea that love and kindness existed.
It wasn’t until volunteers from SNARR Northeast in New York heard about her suffering that things finally started to change. They knew they couldn’t leave her in such despair.
“In a crowded, chaotic city shelter in New Jersey, Patience sat alone, facing the wall, frozen with fear,” SNARR Northeast shared in an emotional Instagram post.
The more they learned about her story, the more they realized how deeply she had been affected. Patience wasn’t just sad—she was utterly broken. She wouldn’t even glance at potential adopters because she had lost all faith in humans. The trauma of abandonment had left her spirit crushed, and it seemed as though she had resigned herself to a life of loneliness.
“She’s shut down, mentally defeated, and lost. Patience doesn’t look at anyone because she doesn’t believe anyone sees her,” the rescue group wrote.

Sadly, Patience’s nightmare didn’t end there. After being adopted once more, she was later found wandering the streets of New Jersey, alone and severely injured. Her past remains a mystery, but rescuers suspect she was hit by a car. The impact left her with a spinal injury and permanent peripheral vision loss—she can only see what’s directly in front of her.
Despite her tragic past, SNARR Northeast refused to give up on her. They knew that Patience needed a peaceful, loving environment where she could heal—physically and emotionally. Their team worked tirelessly to find her the perfect foster home, a place where she could finally feel safe. They reached out to their network, hoping to find someone with the patience, experience, and compassion to help Patience heal from the inside out.
No one could have predicted just how quickly Patience would transform. In a matter of weeks, the once hopeless and withdrawn pup blossomed into a joyful, playful girl. The first breakthrough came when she tentatively wagged her tail at her foster mom. Then, she started to explore her surroundings, cautiously sniffing her new bed and accepting gentle pets. Each small victory was a testament to her resilience.
Her true personality began to shine—a quirky, affectionate Pittie who soaks up every ounce of love she receives. She loves snuggling with her foster family, playing with her toys, and basking in the warmth of a home where she is truly wanted.
Patience is now preparing to start neurological treatment to address her spinal injury. While her physical healing journey is ongoing, her emotional recovery is well underway. For the first time in a long time, she is experiencing joy, trust, and a sense of belonging.

But until then, she’s relishing every moment in her new home, surrounded by people who truly understand and care for her. She no longer hides in corners or avoids eye contact—she seeks out affection, tail wagging with gratitude.
Most importantly, Patience will never have to endure the heartbreak of being abandoned in a shelter again. Her days of loneliness are over, and a future filled with love and security awaits her. Thanks to the compassion and dedication of SNARR Northeast and her loving foster family, Patience’s story is no longer one of sorrow, but of resilience and hope.
