Some senior dogs greet rescuers with cautious eyes or a timid wag. Tessa had a very different way of expressing her feelings. When the team from Sidewalk Specials first met the senior dog in South Africa, they quickly discovered that beneath her difficult circumstances lay a fiercely independent girl with no intention of quietly accepting help from strangers. She was protective, feisty, and understandably suspicious of the people suddenly entering her world. Yet her rescuers could also see something more concerning.
