We found some fun sites to see on the road to Oklahoma. You know we love to find the weird things but we also found some almost normal things to pose with. This photo is me and Nelson in our Wichita hotel room. Mom had taken the luggage to the car and we were horrified to see her at the car without us. Lucky for us, she remembered to come back in and get us for the rest of our drive home. The navigator told mom how we reacted to seeing her out there and they both found it funny. Nelson and I did not.
On the way down, our first “touristy” stop was in Leavenworth, Kansas. In the run down, old section of town, we found the Dr. Spock mural on the side of a building that housed a gaming place. We are not fans of Star Trek, but Spock is an icon, so we needed a photo with him. As you can see we got a photo of Mom getting a photo of us with him.
If you are curious what his little sign says, we have it blown up so you can read it. Ideal words in some geek language for a gaming place mural.
The next morning we started our day with the GreetingsTour mural from Raymore, Missouri. They make fun murals all over the country and we always check to see if we can find one where we are going. Oklahoma City had one we planned to visit, but with the flooding and devastation after the tornadoes, we decided to avoid that city this trip.
We made other stops that day which we will post tomorrow, but our next stop for this post was the Hard Rock Tulsa. It is hard to photograph because it is so tall. They have like six foot guitars all around the property but they are for specific musicians and we wanted a shot with the big kahuna.
Our last stop of the day was in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Mom and the navigator love baking shows and if you watch those you may know Ree Dummond, aka the Pioneer Woman. Dogs are not allowed in The Pioneer Woman Mercantile but across the street by this abandoned building Nelson found this old truck to pose with. Mom and the navigator left us in the car and went in to do some shopping. After this stop, we drove to our hotel in Shawnee, OK, picked up food for the humans and settled in to relax for the night…not knowing about the impending storms that would disrupt our sleep. On the road to Oklahoma there is not a lot to see but we managed to find a few things and it was fun.
