Sort Of Happy – Nelson’s Second Summit Trial

Last weekend was my second Summit Trial which is a two day, eight search trial at the highest level NACSW nose work. It was a local trial so only about twenty minutes from home. Mom says she likes traveling for them much better but we entered this one anyway. We didn’t take many photos as there wasn’t anything fun to pose with. We also didn’t really video as Mom forgot to turn the GoPro off so it ran out of battery on the first day.My first day was really nice and I did a great job. In one of the four searches I was one of only five of the twenty eight dogs that got full points for the search. The second day didn’t go as well. Mom was frustrated and made two bad calls which each cost half of a hide. We also used way too much time as Mom was afraid we would miss something.In the end it was heartbreaking. Had Mom not made just one of the bad calls or had we been about ninety seconds faster in both days combined, I would have earned my first Summit title. We had fun searching and coming in sixth out of twenty eight dogs is pretty good. My first try at Summit was back in March where I places fifteenth out of nineteen dogs.
