We are missing a real winter at our house. The snow will all be gone in a few days and the warm weather is expected to continue. Mom and her dogs have always cherished lots of cold and snow for walking but sadly the climate is changing. I’m looking back at all the dogs and the snow from the past. As you can see behind me, there is more ice than anything which is such a shame!
Trine was Mom’s first dog and a shelter dog she got when she was around a year old. From the shelter she ended up moving with Mom to Germany for the last half of her life, talk about a jackpot deal! When she was ten, Mom got Katie, the Kuvasz, and the two got along fabulously. Living in southern Germany at the time the photo is Katie and Trine in the snow in the alps.
Mom loves cuddly dogs and even though Katie was a guard dog breed, she loved to cuddle with Mom, even on walks in the snowy woods. The photos are from over twenty years ago when digital cameras first came out so the quality isn’t the best. She tells us she walked Trine and Katie for hours in the area they lived in when they were in Bavaria.
Emma came along right before moving back to the USA in 2007. This is such a pretty photo of Emma on a walk here in the USA where we live now. She too loved the snow for playing and walking.
I am Mom’s second GBGV who arrived on Emma’s seventh birthday. She never forgave me for spoiling her party that year. Mom is not afraid of cold. In 2018 she took me and Madison to South Dakota for our first AKC Scent Work Trial. It was so cold and it was an outdoor camp, so nowhere to go indoors to warm up. No bathrooms inside either. Still we had a lot of fun and did well. A friend took this photo of Mom and us next to the river with ice chunks floating down it.
Madison was Mom’s third GBGV and I am the fourth. Mom snapped this shot of us on a walk somewhere in the woods near where we live. Our area has great trail systems which we love. Madison is a small GBGV but she was always the biggest and toughest snow lover of all. She would blaze trails for us in the yard every time it snowed. Now we have to eventually do it ourselves but no one else likes the job.
Last but not least, Nelson joined the family and he certainly loves winter too. This photo was at the frozen Minnehaha Falls two months ago. We are all super sad about the winter situation. Mom thought about moving up north for more winter but she likes being in suburbia, so that would not work. Paws crossed things change and we got some more cold and snow in the coming weeks.
I’m joining my friends at Living Laughing and Barking in Our Backyard for their Nature Friday blog hop.
