Volunteer’s Late-Night Rescue Saves Terrified Dog Hiding Beneath a Car
It was nearly midnight in Othello, Washington, when Kaitlyn, a dedicated volunteer with Adams County Pet Rescue, heard strange cries echoing outside her home. At first, the eerie sounds seemed almost unreal in the stillness of the night. But Kaitlyn’s instincts told her something—or someone—was in trouble.

Stepping into the cold darkness, she followed the sound until it led her to her car. When she knelt to look underneath, a pair of frightened, glimmering eyes stared back. A terrified dog had crawled beneath her vehicle for safety, trembling and too afraid to move.
It was already 11 p.m., and Kaitlyn had just finished letting her own dogs out before bed. What began as an ordinary evening quickly turned into a desperate rescue mission. When she tried to coax the dog out, the frightened pup bolted, dashing around the yard in panic.
“The pup headed out from under the car with Kaitlyn running right behind it,” the rescue later shared. “She needed to make quick decisions so it didn’t disappear into the night.”

Barefoot and determined, Kaitlyn sprinted after the dog through the dark yard, refusing to let it vanish. Even after losing her sandals in the chase, she didn’t stop. The pup, too scared to flee beyond the fence line, circled back again and again until Kaitlyn’s friends arrived to help. Working together, they carefully cornered and secured the terrified animal, finally bringing her to safety.
“When Kaitlyn calls at 11 p.m. at night, I always know something interesting is happening,” Adams County Pet Rescue wrote on Facebook. “When she’s breathless, I know it’s going to be real exciting—and of course, it was.”
The dog, later named Primavera, was transported to the shelter for care and comfort. She was frightened and cautious at first, but it didn’t take long for her gentle nature to emerge. Under the care of her foster mom, Tammy, Primavera began to blossom into the dog she was meant to be.

“She loves chasing balls, chew toys, carrying her stuffies around, and hanging out in the backyard,” the rescue shared. “She’s very social now and wants to be where the people are.”
With time, love, and patience, Primavera’s fear has melted away. Once a terrified stray hiding under a car, she now greets each day with joy and curiosity. Soon, she’ll be ready to find her forever home—a place where she can continue the beautiful journey that began on that cold, dark night.

Primavera’s story is a powerful reminder that compassion and courage can transform even the most fearful souls. Thanks to Kaitlyn’s quick thinking and big heart, a life that could have ended in darkness was instead given a bright, hopeful new beginning.
