Annie Hart with Rescue From The Hart and Eldad with Hope For Paws teamed up after receiving a distressing call from a Good Samaritan. The caller said that a homeless Poodle had just been struck by a car and needed help immediately. The kind rescuers raced over, knowing time was of the essence. As they drove through South Los Angeles, they spotted the dog up against a painted brick wall. The pup, with forlorn eyes and a dirty coat, was unsure what to do with herself. But thankfully, help swiftly arrived.
The white Poodle was so dirty that she turned gray, blending into the wall behind her. The rescuers couldn’t tell if she was injured or terrified. Either way, they didn’t hesitate. Annie approached the pup so she could place a leash around her. She pet her gently, reassuring her every step of the way. Once the leash was loosely around her, Annie picked her up.
Once held, the pup knew instantly that Annie was a good person and was doing all she could to save the dog from the cold streets. She showed her gratitude in the sweetest way by kissing Annie on the face. It warmed their hearts, seeing this fragile dog give herself over to her rescuers despite her trauma and fear.
Annie smiled and her eyes welled up with tears. Annie couldn’t help but feel so much love in her heart. If this Poodle could maintain a heart of gold despite all she had been through, why couldn’t people?
It was time to bring the dog, now named Layla, to the animal hospital. The dog was even loving to the vet. She truly understood what everyone’s intentions were. What an empathetic, grateful, and intelligent dog! Layla received a thorough evaluation. Sadly, it didn’t go well. Layla had sustained serious injuries that affected her intestines. She had to remain in the hospital for several weeks.
The pup found loving foster parents who visited her daily while Layla struggled to heal. They comforted her with soothing words and loving pets. Their love motivated Layla and her health improved more and more each day. Soon, Layla felt well enough to go home with her fosters. It was truly a miraculous moment!
