Dog Gives 100-Year-Old Woman The Motivation To Thrive

1 month ago 18

Dogs bring us immense joy. This is especially true for the senior community. Elders often feel isolated and benefit from companionship. Dogs can also improve cognitive function by requiring simple tasks of care, such as feeding and going outside. They can also motivate someone who is normally sedentary by requiring walks. All in all, dogs are wonderful, just like the pup in this story! A senior dog named Gucci, who was part of a hoarding case, lived among 22 other dogs. He dreamt about a life filled with love and attention, and that is when Johanna walked into his life.

The 100-year-old woman, who hails from Germany, is a dog lover through and through. When her dog Rocky passed away, Johanna knew no other dog could take his place. However, there was a void in her heart, and she suffered profound loneliness. She missed having a dog and felt that she could benefit from adopting another pup. She knew that a dog in need of a good home could also benefit.

When 11-year-old Gucci was surrendered to the shelter, staff understood that a dog at his age would be harder to place. They called the rescue group Muttville and asked if they could take him so he had a better chance of finding a home. They agreed, and soon, Johanna reached out, looking to adopt a dog. When the two of them met, it was as if fate showed down upon them!

Gucci instantly jumped onto his new owner’s lap and showered Johanna with kisses. Now, in his new home, the little dog spends most of his time lounging with Johanna in her recliner. Johanna spoils him with affection, and he, in turn, gives it back!

Johanna has been asked what the secret is to living a long life, and she explained: The key is not to drink or smoke, but to go out and get yourself a dog! Do you agree?
