From the comfort of home, he was suddenly in a loud, unfamiliar shelter filled with fear and uncertainty. “Dogs can smell the fear in the building, they can smell the euthanasia of dogs that have to be euthanized due to the incredible lack of space that every single shelter is dealing with,” the post read.

Rooney was confused and heartbroken. After seven years of loyalty, his family had simply walked away. But just when all hope seemed lost, a rescuer named Ricky from Dog Ranch Rescue arrived. Determined to give Rooney a second chance, Ricky drove to the shelter, gently picked him up, and carried him to safety.

A family in Seattle dropped their dog, a black lab named Mitch, off at a local kennel one day, not expecting anything unusual to occur. But Mitch's stay at the kennel ended with an employee brutally kicking and punching him - to the point of death.

When Ricky brought Rooney back to the rescue facility, the staff was overcome with emotion. Seeing his defeated expression filled them with both sorrow and anger. Their Facebook post captured exactly what they were feeling:
“I am so sick and tired of people ‘getting rid of their dogs’ because you had a baby, a change in your life, blah blah blah… I know some are more compassionate about it than I am, but I’m just not.”

The post continued with a powerful message directed straight at Rooney’s former owners:
“I always wonder, did it make you feel bad while you stood in line? Did you look back at him when you walked away? Did you see his face asking you what the hell? Did you forget about him five minutes later? Ten minutes maybe?”

Their words echoed the heartbreak that rescuers feel every day — frustration at seeing innocent dogs betrayed for reasons that never justify the pain.

Despite everything, Rooney is safe now. The team at Dog Ranch Rescue has surrounded him with care and love, helping him recover emotionally from the trauma of abandonment. They’ve promised to find him a family that will never walk away again.
