A routine shift for a group of Georgia firefighters suddenly turned into an unforgettable rescue when their newest training was put to use far sooner than anyone expected. Instead of responding to a house fire or medical emergency involving a person, the crew from Cobb County Fire Station 21 found themselves racing to a veterinary clinic where a pregnant dog was struggling through a dangerous delivery. Waiting for them were veterinarians who needed extra hands and 15 tiny lives that depended on everyone working together. Credit: Facebook The timing was remarkable. Firefighters at Station 21 had recently completed pet care certification through VEG ER for Pets, learning techniques that could help them respond when animals face life-threatening emergencies. By their very next shift, that training was no longer theoretical. Crew members were called to assist veterinarians treating a pregnant dog experiencing serious complications during labor. The mother needed an emergency C-section, and with so many puppies arriving at once, the veterinary team needed additional trained help.
