Add-Ins and Ingredient Swaps for Variety

Want to mix things up and add some variety to your dog’s treats? Here are a few safe and tasty add-ins and ingredient swaps:

  1. Fruits and Vegetables: Try adding small pieces of dog-friendly fruits like blueberries, strawberries, or apple slices (without seeds). Vegetables like carrots or pumpkin puree are also great options.
  2. Peanut Butter: A spoonful of unsweetened, xylitol-free peanut butter can add a rich flavor that dogs love. Just mix it into the yogurt and bouillon mixture before freezing.
  3. Coconut Oil: Adding a small amount of coconut oil can provide healthy fats and a subtle coconut flavor that many dogs enjoy.
  4. Bone Broth: Swap out the bouillon cube and water with an equal amount of homemade bone broth for an extra nutritious treat.
  5. Herbs: A sprinkle of fresh parsley or mint can help freshen your dog’s breath and add a bit of extra flavor.

Feel free to experiment with these add-ins to find the perfect combination that your dog will love. Just remember to always avoid any ingredients that are toxic to dogs, such as grapes, raisins, onions, and chocolate.

  • 16 ounces of plain yogurt (we used nonfat yogurt)
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 chicken, beef or vegetable bouillon cube

Cook Mode Prevent your screen from going dark

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the bouillon cube in warm water.
  2. Mix the yogurt and the bouillon water together in a blender. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Carefully pour the mixture into silicon ice-cube trays or small containers. If you want, you can use regular ice cube trays, but I find that it’s easier to get the treats out of silicon trays.
  4. Cover and freeze until set. You can make them the night before and freeze overnight, or wait a few hours and test them.
  5. Pop them out and serve on a hot day! Obviously, keep the remainder in the freezer until you’re ready to use.

If you don’t have any bouillon on hand but you do have broth, you can easily swap it out and make this a 2-ingredient dog treat recipe. Just ditch the bouillon and use 3/4 cup of broth in place of the water.

No need to warm the broth, we only warm the water to get the bouillon to dissolve.
