Rescued Golden Retriever Too Terrified to Leave Her Crate on First Night Home

A woman’s emotional TikTok has moved thousands after revealing the heartbreaking way her newly rescued golden retriever behaved on her very first night in a new home.

Raegan, who posts under the username @rae.gan.gosh, shares her life with two golden retrievers. When she learned of Daisy, a golden who had been given away online because her previous owners claimed she was “too annoying,” she knew she had to step in. The dismissive reason devastated Raegan, and she was determined to show Daisy what true love and safety feel like.

When Daisy arrived, the fear in her eyes was overwhelming. Too nervous to step out of her crate, she stayed frozen in place. In a clip viewed nearly 90,000 times, Daisy can be seen trembling, cautiously stretching her neck forward to grab a treat placed just outside the crate. Each time she snatched one, she immediately retreated back into the safety of her little enclosure.

Raegan described the heartbreaking scene as “the night we brought our rescue dog home and she was terrified to leave her crate and would shake uncontrollably when we tried to pet her.” In the caption, her pain was clear: “I just need 2 mins alone with her previous owners,” she wrote, expressing both anger and sorrow at what Daisy must have endured before.

The man's behavior shows the connection between animal abuse and other types of cruelty. He's already been jailed in the past for his violent history, but that obviously didn't address his underlying motivations for this kind of assault.

Viewers flooded the comments section with compassion. One person wrote, “I’ve never seen such a sad golden retriever before.” Another added, “It’s even worse with goldens because their nature is to think every day is the best day ever.” Many encouraged Raegan to shower Daisy with endless love and patience.

That is exactly what she did. In a touching follow-up video, Raegan shared Daisy’s progress. No longer hiding in her crate, Daisy was curled up on the couch, sleeping soundly beside her new family. “She’s spoiled rotten now. As it should be,” Raegan proudly wrote.

Daisy’s transformation from trembling fear to peaceful rest is a reminder of the resilience of dogs and the power of love. Even the most broken spirits can heal when shown patience, kindness, and compassion. For Daisy, the dark chapter of her past has closed, and she now has a family that will never give up on her again.
