A Golden Retriever named Duncan has become the internet’s latest viral sensation after his priceless reaction to an unexpected visitor at the vet’s office.

The video, shared by Animal Imaging in Texas, shows the expressive pup watching in shock as a horse is wheeled through the veterinary clinic. With his wide eyes and head-turning disbelief, Duncan seemed to be asking everyone around him the same silent question: “Are we all seeing this too?”

The clip, posted to TikTok by @animalimaging, quickly exploded online — racking up over 17 million views and tens of thousands of comments from amused viewers who couldn’t get enough of his hilarious expression.

Animal Imaging is an advanced diagnostic imaging center that works with dogs, cats, horses, and exotic animals, using MRI, CT scans, X-rays, and ultrasounds to help diagnose patients. Duncan often joins his owner, who works at the facility, and is affectionately known as the “staff pet.”

On that particular day, Duncan was placed in a kennel to stay out of the way as staff brought in a new patient — a horse arriving for an MRI. But nothing could have prepared him for what he saw.

As the large animal was carefully wheeled in, upside down and supported by a harness, Duncan’s eyes widened in utter disbelief. His head darted around the room, as if hoping someone else would confirm what he just witnessed.

According to a representative from Animal Imaging, the horse was under anesthesia and not in pain, coming in for an MRI on its foot. Still, Duncan’s reaction stole the show.

“He’s a very expressive staff pet,” the representative told Newsweek, adding that it was Duncan’s first time seeing a horse — and his reaction aligned perfectly with science.

A 2023 study published in The Royal Society found that dogs look longer and show greater pupil dilation when something unexpected happens. For Duncan, the sight of a massive horse being wheeled into what he considered “his” clinic was a moment of pure surprise.

Social media users couldn’t get enough. “That the biggest dog I’ve ever seen,” one joked. Another wrote, “I feel this is the equivalent of hearing a kid scream at the dentist right before it’s your turn.” Others related deeply to his visible confusion. “To be fair, I ALSO was NOT expecting a horse,” one user said. Another added, “Side eye speaks: Are we going to address the horse in the room?”
