Today I’m super thankful humans change over time. Mom and I are really tight and I can’t imagine her not having me or any of my previous or current canine siblings in our family. It’s evident that Mom really loves me and she isn’t afraid to show it.
From the day she picked me up from my dog parents, I knew I had her hooked. The two of us would do great things and share a wonderful life together and so far I was right about that.
Mom’s first dog was Trine, a mixed breed from the Humane Society. Prior to Trine, Mom only had cats. Trine was about a year and a half old when Mom adopted her. This photo is the two of them at Westerhever Lighthouse in Germany. Yes, Trine moved from Minnesota to Germany, not bad for a Humane Society dog. The photo is from a long time ago, fyi.
As Trine aged, Mom wanted a puppy and that is when Katie joined the family as a nine week old, Kuvasz, fluff ball. You can see how much Mom loved that little pup. Don’t worry, there is a point to my story, but I have to get through some things first.
After Trine passed away and Katie was an only dog, Mom found Emma in England and she joined the family in Germany as a puppy. Eight months later, Emma and Katie would move to Minnesota from Germany. This selfie was taken a little more recently and look how happy they were.
Bailie is Mom’s second GBGV and Madison was her third. It is becoming obvious that Mom loves dogs and especially GBGV’s. A friend snapped this photo of the three of them in Sioux Falls in 2018 at a very frozen nose work trial. They are cold but happy.
Little Nelson is the last dog who has joined our family and Mom is looking very happy about picking him up. Notice how happy Mom is with all seven of her dogs and that is over many, many years.
Why am I thankful humans change over time? Well, I was digging around in some old stuff with Mom and we found this paper from when she was seven years old. For me it was a devastating find until I thought about it. Mom has had ten cats in her life and now she has none but she is very happy with a house full of hounds. Change can be a good thing. Cats are great but at this point, dogs make Mom happiest and we are all happy to be in her life.
It goes to show that you can’t always believe what you read, especially if it is out of date. Mom will continue on our happy hound journey and forget she ever wrote those horrible words back in elementary school.
