I Traveled Once While I was Twelve

I traveled once while I was twelve. After the road trip to Montana in 2022, Mom said no more road trips for me. This one kind of blindsided me but I understand the reasons behind it. At home I would have been miserable anyway. Nelson needed to finish his AKC Scent Work Master and Detective Titles. It would be the 4th of July, on a weekend and I am scared of fireworks. Mom decided to enter Nelson and Olivia in a trial in Elgin, IL. She would take me along and hope that the fireworks would not be loud in a hotel.

We headed out Friday morning and after just under six hours we were at our hotel. Mom got special permission to bring all three of us to the hotel. Since Mom is terrible at figuring out where things are, we were excited to find out the hotel was in a business park.  Hopefully it would be quiet at night.

The bed was just like at home, so space for me, Mom, and Olivia. Nelson prefers sleeping on the floor.

Saturday and Sunday we went to the trial which was less than a mile from our hotel, yay! Mom walked me around on and off around the big camp ground when she was not trialing with the others. They had a flower power theme and I had my photo taken with the set up. Sunday afternoon we drove back home. The entire weekend we didn’t hear one firework which was great. Hopefully that was truly my last road trip as I really can’t handle the car well at all!

Just to keep up with my siblings, I too made a map of my travels. For a girl who doesn’t travel well, twenty four states in nine years of traveling isn’t bad! I’ve seen lots of beautiful things, mountains, badlands, deserts, oceans, national parks, weird roadside attractions, and lots of nature around the USA. Hopefully I really won’t have to travel anymore and I can just stay home and enjoy the nature near our house.
