You know me, I thrive on connection and good conversation. This is one of the reasons why I love the “Get To Know Your Vet” series.
I hear people often complaining about vets, and GTKYV has been a great opportunity to show you there are countless kind, caring and dedicated vets among us.
My hope has been that if you get to know your vet, you will see the true person behind the title.
A few weeks ago, I sat down with my dear friend and colleague, Dr. Barbara Royal, the integrative veterinarian behind Royal Treatment Veterinary Center in Evanston, Michigan, the College of Integrative Veterinary Therapies.
She’s treated some of the most famous pets in the world (Oprah's included), written a book, and appeared in a documentary — yet she is so wonderfully normal. No ego, no BS, just a real kind, smart, enthusiastic and dedicated vet who has no intention to stop helping.
In the interview, she made it clear none of the accolades mattered to her nearly as much as showing up fully for whoever is in front of her, human or animal. And it shows.
Anyway, what started as a planned interview turned into something much more fun.
Barbara and I have worked together on some educational programs for vets and pet parents, and this conversation reminded me all over again how alike we are.
Maybe it is also because we both love water, swimming and secretly believe we might had been dolphins before… ;-)
