A burning shed, thick smoke, and a tiny dog fighting for his life marked the beginning of a story that would eventually touch thousands of people. In 2015, Jake was pulled from a devastating fire in Hanahan, South Carolina, with severe burns covering much of his body and little indication of what his future might hold. What followed was an extraordinary recovery that transformed the once critically injured pup into Jake the Fire Pibble, a beloved fire department mascot, social media favorite, and familiar face whose presence continues to bring firefighters and animal lovers together. Several first responders rushed to help, and amid the smoke and debris, Lindler spotted Jake struggling to escape. The frightened dog managed to free himself from beneath part of the fallen ceiling before disappearing back into the smoke. When Lindler finally reached him and carried him outside, Jake was not breathing. Lindler immediately began mouth-to-snout resuscitation and chest compressions in the front yard.
