Eddy’s Rescue: From the Bayou to a Bright Future
Some people are sent to the right place at the right time for a reason, and Eddy would definitely agree if he could speak.
This poor little Shih Tzu was struggling to stay afloat in a drainage ditch, often called a bayou, in Houston, Texas. Exhausted, cold, and clinging to a cluster of reeds, he was moments away from being swept away before fate stepped in.

That help came in the form of a brave woman named Velvin Alvarado. Just as storm clouds began to gather, she spotted something unusual floating in the bayou. Realizing it was a small dog, she didn’t hesitate for a second. Without concern for herself, she waded into the water, determined to save him before the incoming rain made conditions worse.
“A rainstorm was coming and the ditch soon filled with fast-moving water. Velvin saw where he was and rescued the little guy from the water. He was very scared and traumatized,” Erin, Eddy’s first foster, wrote on Facebook.

With gentle care, patience, and lots of love, he started to show his sweet personality. He discovered the joy of snuggling, eating scrambled eggs mixed with veggies, and playing with other dogs. His caregivers described him as a “social butterfly” who loves people once he feels safe.

Eddy will soon undergo treatment for a few health concerns, including a urinary tract infection and worms, before being neutered. After that, he’ll be fully ready to find his forever home.
