Police Recover 77 Dogs From RV in Shocking Animal Welfare Case

More than 100 frightened dogs are finally safe after authorities uncovered heartbreaking conditions during a months-long animal welfare investigation in Mesquite, Nevada. Officers who entered a cramped RV described a scene filled with overwhelming filth, little food or clean water, and terrified dogs desperately climbing over one another for space. Many of the animals appeared exhausted and neglected after enduring life inside the overcrowded vehicle, while several pregnant dogs and newborn puppies also needed immediate care. Despite the disturbing conditions, rescuers say the dogs are now receiving medical treatment, comfort, and a real chance at the happy lives they were denied for far too long.

Police say the investigation began after repeated complaints about a home filled with far too many dogs. Officers and Animal Control had reportedly been monitoring the situation for months after neighbors raised concerns about the overwhelming number of animals living on the property.

The owner, identified as Guistinio Laudando, was cited multiple times and arrested twice over the violations, according to Mesquite Police. Investigators believed the situation was escalating after Laudando was evicted from the home near Hafen Lane earlier this year.

Authorities said Laudando later claimed he planned to leave Nevada with the dogs and relocate to another state where he could legally keep them.

Police saw him loading dogs into an RV and initially believed he was leaving the area. Instead, detectives say he moved into an RV parked on Bureau of Land Management property just outside city limits.

Weeks later, on May 15, officers confronted Laudando in a Walmart parking lot in Mesquite. What they discovered inside the roughly 30-foot RV was devastating.

Dogs were packed tightly together in filthy, unsanitary conditions. Feces and urine covered much of the interior, while food and clean water were reportedly scarce. Investigators described the animals as frantic and overwhelmed as officers began removing them one by one.

Some of the dogs appeared weak and in need of immediate medical attention. Several were pregnant, and at least one mother dog had recently given birth to four puppies while trapped in the overcrowded conditions.

Rescue Teams Step In To Help Exhausted Dogs

In total, 77 dogs were recovered from the RV during the initial rescue. But the investigation did not end there.

As detectives continued gathering evidence, they located another 33 dogs near Mesquite Regional Trailhead Park. Authorities say the dogs were hidden in an area outside the city, though investigators still do not know exactly where all 114 animals originally came from.

Despite the uncertainty, rescuers focused on what mattered most: getting the dogs to safety.

Many of the animals were scared, exhausted, and badly in need of veterinary care after spending so much time in cramped conditions. Volunteers and shelter workers immediately stepped in to provide treatment, food, clean bedding, and comfort.

According to police, every rescued dog has now been transferred to the Mesquite Animal Shelter, where staff and volunteers have been working nonstop to stabilize the animals and prepare them for recovery.

The shelter says the dogs will require extensive medical care before they are ready for adoption. Even so, officials remain optimistic about their future.

Officers described the dogs as resilient despite everything they endured. With proper treatment, patience, and socialization, many are expected to make full recoveries and eventually find loving homes.

Investigators arrested Laudando along with a second suspect, Michelle Santos. Both now face eight felony counts of animal cruelty and more than 100 misdemeanor counts related to animal neglect.

For shelter workers and volunteers, the focus has now shifted from the investigation to healing.

Local rescue groups and nearby shelters have reportedly offered support as teams continue caring for the animals around the clock. Volunteers have been helping clean, feed, medicate, and comfort the rescued dogs since the moment they arrived.

While the legal process continues, many hope the dogs can soon be cleared for adoption so they can finally experience safe homes, proper care, and the happiness they were denied for so long.
