What started as a simple vacation snapshot has now turned into a viral tourist attraction—all thanks to a mountain that looks just like a giant puppy!
Shanghai-based designer Guo Qingshan was visiting his hometown in Yichang, China, when he decided to go for a scenic hike. Later, as he reviewed the photos from his trip, he noticed something extraordinary—a mountain shaped exactly like a dog’s head!

Guo named his discovery “Puppy Mountain” and shared it on the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu (RedNote) on Valentine’s Day. The post immediately went viral, receiving 120,000 likes in just 10 days! On Weibo, the hashtag #xiaogoushan (Chinese for ‘Puppy Mountain’) racked up millions of views.
People were mesmerized by the mountain’s adorable, lifelike appearance. The way its snout touches the Yangtze River makes it look like it’s either taking a drink, watching fish, or even protecting the water below.
“The puppy’s posture is like it’s drinking water, or it’s looking at some fish. It also looks like it’s quietly protecting the Yangtze River,” Guo explained.
A Tourist Destination Is Born ️
Soon, dog lovers and travel enthusiasts began flocking to Yichang’s Zigui County to see Puppy Mountain for themselves. Some visitors even brought their own dogs to pose in front of the mountain for adorable side-by-side comparisons!

Surprisingly, Puppy Mountain has been there for years—but most people never noticed it until Guo’s photo went viral!
After his post gained attention, many locals went back through their own old travel photos—only to realize they had captured the mountain before but never recognized its puppy-like shape.
One Yichang resident, Shi Tong, even shared a photo from 2021, proving that Puppy Mountain’s features had remained unchanged for years.
Now, with thousands of tourists and pet lovers making the journey to see it, Puppy Mountain has become a must-visit spot for anyone traveling to the region.
