Six Puppies Rescued from Storm Drain Find Forever Homes Thanks to Kansas Humane Society

You never know when a routine day will lead to something extraordinary. But for animal rescuers, those moments of surprise often turn into stories of hope and second chances.

Recently, a team from the Kansas Humane Society (KHS) made one such discovery after hearing faint cries echoing from a concrete storm drain near their Murfin Animal Care Campus. The sounds were urgent, heartbreaking — and unmistakably coming from tiny voices in distress.

When Taylor, the director of animal operations, arrived with colleagues Sophie and Tiffany, they found a heartbreaking sight: six terrified puppies, just three months old, huddled deep inside the drain. The little ones had been dumped and left without their mother, clinging to each other for warmth and safety.

Determined to rescue them all, the team got to work. Using patience, gentle voices, and plenty of treats, they spent several hours coaxing the frightened puppies toward safety. It wasn’t easy — the drain was cold, narrow, and dark — but one by one, the puppies began to crawl toward the rescuers who refused to give up.

Finally, after hours of effort, all six puppies were safe inside the rescue vehicle, snuggled in blankets and finally free from danger.

“Our Director of Animal Operations, Taylor, Veterinary Assistant, Sophie, and Animal Care Supervisor, Tiffany, spent the morning luring the puppies from the storm drain. They eventually got them all out safely and into a car,” the Kansas Humane Society shared on Facebook.

The puppies were then taken to Wichita Animal Services for a mandatory stray hold before returning to KHS for spay and neuter surgeries. Once the medical care was complete, it was time for love, warmth, and playtime — something these pups had never known.

Kennel Worker’s Violent Rage Leads to Dog’s Death

A family in Seattle dropped their dog, a black lab named Mitch, off at a local kennel one day, not expecting anything unusual to occur. But Mitch's stay at the kennel ended with an employee brutally kicking and punching him - to the point of death.

According to KHS, the six puppies — Abby, Ellie, Greg, Lev, Mike, and Tommy — quickly showed their affectionate sides. “They LOVE people,” the team wrote. “Their entire bodies become wiggly with tail wags when you pet them.”

The shelter shared photos and videos of the sweet siblings online, along with a heartfelt plea for adopters. “These poor pups had a rough start in life, and now they need forever homes! They’re still young with lots to learn, and are looking for caring adopters with the time to train, play with, and snuggle them.”

The post spread quickly, touching thousands of hearts across social media. Within just 48 hours, the shelter’s inbox was overflowing with adoption applications.

And then, the best update came in — every single puppy had found their forever home.

Ellie, Greg, Mike, Abby, Lev, and Tommy all went home with loving families ready to give them the comfort, security, and joy they had been denied.
