Shelter Dog’s Smile Fades With Each Day Her Kennel Stays Empty

4 days ago 5

It’s one of the hardest sights for shelter workers to witness—a dog who once beamed with joy slowly losing her spirit. That’s exactly what happened to Isabella, a two-year-old pup whose life changed when her loving owner had to leave for military service.

Isabella had known a good life. She lived in a home where she was cared for, loved, and showered with affection. But when her owner was deployed, he had no one to leave her with. Heartbroken, he made the difficult decision to surrender Isabella to the Humane Society of Broward County in Florida, hoping she’d find a new home filled with love.

At first, Isabella adjusted well. She was friendly, always wagging her tail and greeting everyone who passed by her kennel. She remained playful, affectionate, and hopeful. But as days turned into weeks—and now nearly two months—that sparkle in her eyes began to dim. She no longer greeted people with the same enthusiasm. Her smile disappeared.

It was as though Isabella had begun to understand the truth: her person wasn’t coming back.

Despite her change in demeanor, Isabella’s sweet nature never left her. Staff describe her as a well-mannered and loving dog who enjoys belly rubs, durable chew toys, and rolling around with joy when she plays. She walks well on a leash, is fully house-trained, and gets along with other dogs. But her heart aches for a home.

The sadness she feels hasn’t gone unnoticed. Rescuers and volunteers are doing everything they can to help her find someone who will see what a truly wonderful dog she is. They know she just needs a chance. Someone to remind her that love isn’t gone—it’s just waiting to be found again.

Now, the Humane Society is reaching out far and wide to find Isabella a second chance. They adopt out of state and even to Canada, as long as adopters can arrange transportation.

Isabella deserves to smile again. She deserves to feel loved and secure, just like before. And with the right person, she’ll no doubt become the bright, joyful pup she once was.
