For more than a year, Martha watched families arrive at Boxer Rescue Los Angeles, hoping to meet the dog who would become part of their lives, but each time, she was left behind. By 2015, she had become the rescue’s longest resident, carrying a reputation for being difficult, distant, and unwilling to trust. Beneath that guarded behavior, however, was a dog who simply had not met the person who made her feel completely safe. As the months passed without an adoption, Martha’s chances of finding a loving home seemed to grow smaller, leaving everyone to wonder whether someone would ever see the gentle heart hidden behind her fear.
