Stray Dog Carried an Enormous Weight for Years Until Rescuers Set Him Free

When Hamilton County Dog Wardens responded to a report of an injured stray dog on July 1, they found a little Chihuahua mix who was impossible to forget. Porky was underweight and carrying an enormous growth on the side of his face, one so large that Cincinnati Animal CARE believes it had likely burdened the senior dog for years. The mass dramatically changed the appearance of Porky’s face and looked uncomfortable, but there was still a sweet older dog underneath it all. Once he arrived at Cincinnati Animal CARE, the shelter’s medical team began figuring out how to give him the fresh start he desperately needed. That would eventually mean an extensive surgery and a recovery unlike anything Porky had experienced in a very long time. When he finally woke up from the procedure, the enormous weight he’d been carrying was gone. And Porky’s story didn’t end with his recovery. The little dog who arrived as an injured stray is now thriving in a home of his own, where his days include toys, naps, car rides, snuggles, and a kitty sister named Winnie.
