Olivia’s fifteenth birthday portraits were supposed to capture one of those carefully planned moments a family hopes to remember forever. Dressed in an elegant white gown that brushed against the cobblestones of La Vigía Square in Matanzas, Cuba, the young girl looked every bit ready for the occasion. Her dress shimmered with delicate stones, her hair was swept high beneath a tiara, and subtle makeup marked that tender place between childhood and growing up.
