Golden Retriever Becomes a Gentle Guardian for Abandoned Baby Bunnies
Sometimes the most extraordinary rescues happen when we least expect them. That was the case in Torrington, Connecticut, when a routine walk turned into a touching display of empathy and instinct. Jenna Laigle, 31, had taken her six-year-old Golden Retriever, Otis, for their usual stroll when his behavior suddenly shifted. He grew anxious, distracted, and insistent on leading her toward a nearby field.
Following his cues, Jenna soon understood why—scattered across the grass were six tiny newborn rabbits. They appeared cold, fragile, and lifeless, clearly separated from their mother. In an area often visited by hawks and other predators, their chances of survival were slim. But Otis, guided by instincts deeper than words, immediately sprang into action.

Instead of seeing the bunnies as prey, Otis treated them as if they were his own. One by one, he carefully picked each baby up in his mouth, carrying them gently to a safer spot. Once all six were gathered, he curled his body protectively around them, tucking them between his paws as though shielding them from the world. He licked their tiny bodies and snuggled close until they calmed, giving them the comfort they so desperately needed.
