Summer with Golden Retrievers is always entertaining. As a dog parent of two Goldens, KB and KENZO, I’ve learned that when the weather gets warm, they each have their own funny ways of trying to stay cool.
Below, I’m sharing 6 funny ways Golden Retrievers beat the summer heat with their own dramatic flair.

How Golden Retrievers Beat the Summer Heat in a Funny Way
Goldens don’t just cool off quietly. They make it cute, silly, and sometimes very dramatic. I’ve seen everything from cool-tile sploots to dramatic floor flops.

On a summer walk, one minute they are happy and enjoying themselves, and the next minute, they are fully stretched out on the cool grass like they just completed a major adventure.
Of course, summer safety always comes first. Cooler walk times, fresh water, shade, and avoiding hot pavement are all important. But in true Golden Retriever fashion, KB and KENZO always find a way to make cooling off look extra funny.
6 Funny Ways Golden Retrievers Beat the Summer Heat

1. The Sploot
Cool tiles are a must.
There is something so relatable about a Golden finding the coolest spot in the house and claiming it immediately. For KB, the sploot is the perfect summer move — stretch out, relax, and let the cool floor do its job.
It always makes me smile because Goldens seem to know exactly which floor feels best on a warm day. Whether it’s tile, wood, or the coldest corner of the room, once they find their spot, they are not moving anytime soon.
2. Sprinkler Attack Mode
Biting water is serious business.
Some Goldens treat sprinklers like a summer game, and KENZO definitely brings that playful energy. The moment water starts spraying, it can turn into a full-on mission — chase it, bite it, jump through it, and repeat.
It is one of those funny Golden Retriever behaviors that makes no sense and perfect sense at the same time. To them, spraying water is not just water. It is entertainment, exercise, and a personal challenge.
3. Frozen Treats Obsession
Fast, furry, and gone in sixty slurps.
Frozen treats are always a summer favorite. Whether it’s a pupsicle or a frozen dog-safe snack, KB and KENZO know when something special is being served.
The funny part is how serious they get. One minute it is a cute little frozen treat, and the next minute they are licking like there is a timer on it. With Goldens, frozen treats do not last long — especially when those fast, furry slurps begin.
4. The Dramatic Meltdown
One walk later… total floor flop.
This one feels very KENZO. After a warm walk or a little outdoor fun, the dramatic floor flop can happen fast. He will stretch out like he just completed a major summer adventure.
Goldens have a way of making a simple cool-down look very dramatic. The full-body flop, the happy tired face, the big sigh — it is all part of their summer personality. And honestly, it is hard not to laugh because they make resting look like a performance.
5. AC Vent Hunting
Always know where the cold air is.
Golden Retrievers are smart, and summer proves it. KB and KENZO always seem to know where the cool air is, especially when the AC is on. Somehow, they find the best spot and settle in like it was made just for them.
It is funny how quickly they become professional AC vent hunters. They may love being outside, but once it gets too warm, they know exactly where to go for maximum comfort.
6. Shade-Seeking Expert
The shadiest spot always wins.
Even sunshine-loving Goldens know when it is time to choose shade. KB and KENZO can enjoy being outside, but when the sun gets too strong, shade becomes the best seat in the house.
Under a tree, beside a chair, near a wall, or anywhere with a little cooler ground — Goldens are very good at finding the perfect shady spot. It is their way of saying, “I still want to be part of the fun, but I would like the cooler version, please.”

Why Goldens Add Dramatic Flair When It’s Hot
Golden Retrievers already have big personalities, and summer brings out even more of their funny habits. KB and KENZO remind me that cooling off does not have to be boring. It can include splooting, flopping, sprinkler chasing, frozen treat slurping, AC vent hunting, and a whole lot of Golden charm.
That is one of the best parts of life with Goldens. Even on hot days, they find a way to make us laugh, slow down, and enjoy the little moments.
Because every Golden cool-down deserves a little dramatic flair.
