Giraffe Calf’s Fluffy Little Hairdo Made Him an Instant Celebrity

It was Eugene’s hair that first got everyone talking. When the Toledo Zoo & Aquarium introduced the giraffe calf earlier this year, visitors quickly noticed the fluffy little tuft sitting proudly atop his head. Combined with his curious expression, long legs, and unmistakable baby-giraffe charm, the unusual hairstyle made Eugene difficult to forget. Several months later, the little calf introduced to the world at only a few weeks old is doing plenty of growing. Eugene was born on January 17, which means the once-tiny newcomer is now around 7 months old and has had time to settle into life with his giraffe family. His legs may be getting longer and his world considerably bigger, but that memorable tuft remains part of what made people fall for him in the first place. His parents are Lily and Rocket, and his arrival was an especially meaningful milestone for Lily because Eugene is her first calf.
