Rats – Progress Working On Perfection

My GBGV Life Rats - Progress Working On PerfectionMom says we have made progress but we are still working on perfection in Barn Hunt. Almost two weeks ago we went to the winter trial with the goal of getting qualifying runs and hopefully at least one of us a Senior Title. Well, how did it go for us?

My GBGV Life Barn Hunt boredomIt was colder than cold outside with lots of bone chilling wind and ice on the ground. Most of the two days we stayed in our kennels and napped. Olivia needed one Q for her title and we each had four runs. The past six weeks we have practiced almost weekly. The problem we have is there is no rewarding in the ring. We have to climb, tunnel, and find four rats and then when we leave we can have snacks. It is not how it works in our other sports. Mom has worked hard showing us we can do this and get something amazing when we are all done. We know where the rats are but we don’t tell our mom. Mom did finally start getting us motivated. Olivia found three rats in the allotted time twice and all four once but then she refused to go in the tunnel. It is progress as she found those rats fast but still not good enough.

My GBGV Life Rats - Progress Working On PerfectionI too can point out those rats in no time flat but only when I want to. My second run of the first day, I did it! I found all four, climbed and tunneled and earned my first Senior Q with first place. Mom says I was on fire as I was so fast pointing out the rats once I decided to do it. Now I have one Q but I need two more for my Senior Title. Since we are starting to understand this odd concept for Barn Hunt, we are going to continue practicing and hopefully try again in April. Progress is good but we are working on perfection so we can earn our titles. We are thankful things are starting to come together for both of us in this sport.

Since we haven’t done Barn Hunt in two and a half years, Mom totally forgot to take photos of the courses and things but she too will make progress next time.
