We are enjoying the gift of nose work vessels from Christmas. We have a lot of different vessels to put the odor in but new ones are a lot of fun. A friend makes some with a 3D printer and Mom bought some for us. We now have a pine cone, a rock, and the six pretty colored ones with a magnet in one end. Mom thought we should give them a try, so we did on Christmas morning.
Our search included a few of the new hides and some of our old ones. Nelson and I had seven hides, some challenging ones, and Bailie had four more simple hides. I started the searching and of course, Mom forgot to take photos of me searching but she did get me finding the pine cone hanging on the tree. My eyes are rather goofy. Normally we don’t find hides in our tree, but my nose doesn’t lie.
Nelson sniffed after I finished. One of the first ones he found was under Mom’s desk. He doesn’t need to give an alert as Mom can tell from how he is moving that he is on the odor.
The new rock hide is on the floor between Santa and the Elf. Nelson caught it from the other side but Mom would like us to always get our noses right on hides when they are accessible.
He came around to the other side to get his nose on it all on his own as he knows how Mom likes things done. This one will be a lot of fun when it is outside in the real rocks in the spring.
Our brother is good about finding hides above his head that are on tables or desks. This new green magnetic hide is on the metal box on the table. He worked really hard to narrow down the location before gently putting his paws on the table. Nelson is a big tough guy, but he is always very gentle when putting his paws up on anything in nose work or life in general.
Being Christmas, Mom thought it would be fun to have a hide on the Christmas Snoopy tin. He didn’t care much about the Snoopy thing, Nelson wanted his snacks that Mom had just made.
Bailie loves to sniff with us and she gets mad if Mom doesn’t give her nose work puzzles too. She searched under Mom’s desk as we did.
When she narrowed down the source, she stepped back and let Mom know.
Bailie has some arthritis and isn’t good at putting her paws up these days, so Mom moved the table hide to a lower door hinge. Bailie had no trouble finding it. Can you tell she is ready to get her treat for finding it?
It’s always good to have new places to search, new hide placements and new vessels to keep us all from getting into a rut. We’ll have a lot more sniffing fun with a bigger collection of vessels to put hides in! Mom did well with these as a Christmas gift for us all.
